Follow Up - Problems with Compaq TFT5000 Monitor

Hi,

A follow up to my earlier posting - see below.

I have taken the monitor to work and tried it with my work PC - now I am back to no display and a flashing on/off button? i.e. the problem lies with the monitor and not the video card. I checked the voltage coming out of the AC adapter and this is OK - any other suggestions? Is it worth taking the monitor to a repair shop?

[I have a Compaq deskpro (PIII, 800MHz, 128MB) with a flat panel Compaq TFT5000 monitor. Both items were bought used off e-bay 6 months ago.

We were recently decorating the house, so the PC and monitor were disconnected and placed in a box to prevent them getting covered in drywall dust. One week later, I reconnected everything, to find that the monitor display remained black (i.e. like it was turned off) after booting up and the glowing 'on' button on the monitor was flashing rapidly (checked all the connections, everything OK)?

Three days later and without us doing anything to it, now the monitor will show a display, which is a blue background with what appears to be garbled junk characters (and the lit 'on' button is no longer flashing)?

Anybody have any experience with TFT displays? If they stop working are they junk, or can they be repaired?]

Sounds like the video card may have "moved" a little bit in the slot...its very easy for that to happen..you need to open up the case....take out the video card and "re seat" it into the slot..then try it.

Of course if you have onboard graphics this point is moot, lol.

BUT,

I tried the monitor with another PC and it still wouldn't work i.e. the problem appears to be with the monitor, as opposed to with the video card?
