Gotta Find Old Software...

I'm reading that some advertisers/sites are working on ways to counter pop up ad blockers, such as denying access to users of such.

I have to search my old software archives. I used to have a program that used to sealth windows. It's primary use for me was in the old free dial up days, it would hide the ad banner.

It didn't remove the banner, it just made it invisible to the eye. Electronically, it was still there. Those banners worked like a cookie of sorts. But since they would still get the ping, I was allowed to surf.

I may have to see if I still had it. It would also stealth a window!

I've been to sites like this using vBulletin where you couldn't get in if you used ad blockers....

Sounds like you're describing using a custom HOST file. Sound familiar?

Yeah.. I had a copy of that file when I used Netzero for a couple of weeks. I gave up on Netzero PDQ because the ISP was so far away I could only get V34 connects, which sucked.

That file has been long gone here...2 or 3 hard drives ago.

Edit:

Try the following. It has a popup killer..doesn't quite get them all, but helps..and so far, I have not seen a website that I couldn't get into.

IE New Window Maximizer

This program will automatically maximize new Internet Explorer and Outlook Express windows for you. It also includes a function for hiding/closing all IE windows with a userdefined hotkey.

You can also open new IE windows and automatically have them sent to the background.
The program is also capable of closing popup windows.
