Fox's Xtreme Case....Can he do it?

I'm currently a Junior in high school, and need to figure out some sort of Senior Project to finish by the end of my senior year. I'm the class g33k, and wondered if I could make something to do with computers. I don't know programming beyong BASIC and I've forgotten some of that anyways, so why not make...

A computer case?!

Seeing on how much the acrylic cases suck that you can buy online, as they are flimsy and prone to breakage, I've devised an evil plan to make an at least somewhat-sturdy case made of Lexan. Along the edges somewhere, in various places along the (lack of) frame, I'd attach strips of, oh, 3mm-ish metal to strengthen the cage. Sound like something that would work? The whole thing is trapped inside my mind, so I'll have to find boring classes (like English) to sketch rough plans out.

Anyone here have some suggestions/rants or anything to say about this project? As always, if I do complete this (and I better, to hell or high water), I'll credit TIMO in one way or another.

Don't find English and "other" classes boring - you'll eventually regret it. Find a way to make them interesting.

Finally someone replied! Yeah, well English has always come easy for me, despite my incredibly lazy, almost southern speech. Long story.

Anyways, well I went on over to TAP Plastics in Tigard, OR, and asked the really snotty-I-just-want-numbers sales lady about pricing/thickness for polycarbonate Lexan. Turnes out that if I was to use Lexan from them in the thickness I wanted the project was going to cost $200 or something (around $150-ish for a 4x4ft sheet of Lexan). Well, needless to say I don't have that kind of cash, so I may be forced to resort to Plexiglass even though I really really don't want to.

Anyone know of a place online where I can order Lexan on the cheap?

I have no suggestions for you since I know less about modding than you do, but I do want to say good luck. Sounds like a great plan. I'm interested in how it turns out.

You may have the best success by going to your local "glass shop" As a mod fan and a racer, Lexan is not cheap! reason: it can flex without breaking (read "bullet proof"). I also checked on using Lexan, plexiglass, acrylic, and vinyl. You may have to adjust your design significantly to remain "cost-effective"....Good Luck

You might also try EBAY..... I did a search, they had some lexan sheets listed.

Sophomore in highschool here. I was gonna do a case mod for my senior project too. Tell me how this case turns out. I was gonna use the AOL cd case that I'm building for my senior project. I was just gonna build another one out of like Earthlink cd's lol. GL

Well thanks for the good luck's everyone. I'm still trying to figure out a way to pay for this stuff. Most likely on Monday I'll head over to ACE Hardware here in Newberg as they are local, and sold me the thin Plexiglass that broke because the screws were too much for it. I'll check out their thicknesses and prices, and report back here.
