Outdoors DESPERATE!! Can't use broadband connection on laptop

Can someone please help me!!! This is my first post so please be kind. I have just bought a new laptop and would like to use my broadband connection that I already have on my PC. I have set up the network connection on pc and laptop and I have a little icon showing that broadband is connected at 2.2Mbps. I also have another little icon showing that the network is connected but when I open Internet Explorer it just says page cannot be displayed, I have tried loads of different sites and none work. What could this be? Please help, am desperate to use new laptop.

spam,

did you use Dial up in your laptop, could be that its set to use the dial up, check to see if you have pulled an Ip address, if so go to tools, internet options and connections and make sure it is set to Never Dial up. (try ftp or ping to see if TCP/IP is working also)

BTW welcome to Techimo

welcome to the forum!

not sure on the problem though..maybe you can tell us more about how EXACTLY you have them two comps hooked up?

you could try to turn off the firewall if its on....right click the connection / properties and click advanced..unclick the firewall

Or you could try, from the command prompt....

first do "ipconfig /release"

then "ipconfig /renew"

or do this..on the lappy...do an "ipconfig /all" and post up the results so we can check it out.

Thanks for that, it was the simple problem of the firewall on my PC. I disabled it and everything is working fine. Although this was a very simple solution, I spent hours yesterday searching the inernet for some kind of help!! I suppose some people just assume that computer users are all experts. Thanks once again.
