Systems Please HELP! Me setup up my tuner.

I have ATI All In Wonder 9800 Pro, which has a built in tuner.
I want to setup the tuner to work with my satellite, so I can watch for example HotBird channels through my pc.

I connected the catv wire that comes from the satellite directly to my card, but I am still unable to view any channel. I did the auto search, but it was useless.

So please help me find out how to solve this problem.
Thanks A Lot

I dont think the AIW is capable of decoding the satilite.... you need a decoder between the two. So it probably needs to go from your satilite... to a decoder... to your computer.

I tried to connect my satellite catv wire to my digital receiver and then I connected the digital receiver to video-in socket in my card. And I was able to view only one channel (selected channel in digital receiver).

But that’s not what I want. I want to be able to change channels though my computer.
I know this option is available in my card, that’s way I bought it.
In other words it should be separated from my digital receiver.

Anyway, thanks very much for your help

Well it should be able to do regular cable just fine. Problem is in order to view satilite you have to decode it... your card can view the signal but it dosnt have a clue how to decode it... there maybe a small box you can purchase from your satilite company that will allow a pass through to your PC so you can get all the channels but you would have to ask them... I dont see any other way... sorry... anybody else have a clue?

I think he means he wants to change the channels using the AIW. That is not going to be possible because you need to decode it like stated before. You can pipe the decoded signal into your card, like you have it w/ the Video In, but you can only change the channels on the receiver, not the AIW. In order to change the channels w/ the AIW, it would have to decode the signal straight from the satellite, which it can't. You could have just gotten by with a card w/ Video In.

I would think the company that does your satilite has to have some sort of decoder that just passes the signal... its basically the decoder you have but just dumbed down. Id try to call em and ask.

If there was a program, it would be illegal. But you need the decoding before the card, not after it gets to it.

Try the satellite company like suggested. They're probably just going to tell you that you need a receiver and that's where you're going to have to change the channels.
