Faxing from Windows

Is there a way to set up windows 2000 server or pro to act as a faxmachine? I want to be able to fax from files on the computer, no need to send from scanner. Also, I want to be able to receive faxed documents.

How do I set this up?

yes.

First off you need to go to "add remove" programs and then probably "windows components" or whatever....you should see something like "fax services"

I imagine from there you just configure it by choosing your modem possibly..not sure...but it should be fairly straightforward.

I think receive is off by default so you need to enable it....(probably off by default to keep from getting junk faxes)

It is but you can save incoming faxes to a folder rather than printing them.

John's exactly right (again), once it installs, you can select it from the printer choices... i.e. if you're sending a word doc instead of selecting a printer, select "Fax".. then it goes through all the where to send it etc.

Receiving? It pops-up and answers automatically whenever the phone line rings that's associated with this computer.. usually a wrong number it's a voice over data thing!
