Road Runner problem ..FIXED.......

I think Road Runner is screwing a friend of mine!! I built his daughter a new computer and he wanted to hook it up to his Road Runner Cable connection. I told him to get a Linksys router and I would hook it up. I’ve been trying to get this thing to work for a week! I tested the router and computer at my house (different Cable company) and it works fine but I can not get it to work at his house. So he calls Road Runner and they told him they would hook up a wireless router for $79 and the additional connection for $9.95 / month. $9.95 / month ???????????? what is that for????????? I have done everything I can think of but the router will not show the WAN I.P. address.

Can Road Runner cause the router not to work????? I know another person that is having the same problem with Road Runner. I’ve forced the MAC address and IP address and it still does not work. I can ping a couple of places and it will return 1 packet out of 4 but the connection will not stay up.

Why is Road Runner charging $9.95/ month for the additional connection???? I have 4 connections at my house and pay a flat fee! I think Road Runner is doing it on purpose so they can charge $9.95/month for nothing! That should be illegal. I have called their Tech Support but it was a waste of time.

as far as I know there's nothing illegal about it. Roadrunner cannot require you to pay for setting up a network unless they do it themselves. But they sure won't help you out it's not in their interest. Stupid I know, but that's how businesses work. defn. call up linksys. It's odd that you can't get it working though, my linksys router detected roadrunner within seconds and I was surfing on out network in less than a couple minutes. Sorry about your troubles! Hope you get them solved and let us know what happens

Another RR customer and everything on this network runs fine. Even the servers.

Did you try reseting the modem before you powered on the router?

We left it unplugged for 30 seconds... I also ran the disk that came with the Linksys router and it said everything was working properly.

do you have the latest firmware updates for the router and do you perhaps you might have to clone the mac address of the network card in the router to get it working with road runner

I have Road Runner connected to three computers through a router. I don't pay them anything more than the monthly charge of $45. They did tell me if I want a hub then I have to pay $10 per connection.

The only way I think they are ripping off people is the unreliability of their service. Sometimes its very fast but sometimes like dial up.

Buddy of mine had a similar problem, but he did not have RoadRunner. In his case, it came down to two issues: signal strength (due to distance of cable run), and poor wiring at one of his CAT5 terminals. The former might explain your friend's troubles. It may be beneficial to get a tech out to his place to check out the signal(s).

Hope this helps.

Misc FIXED FIXED FIXED

Finally it’s WORKING………………..

Turned out it was an “off-brand” cable modem. Replaced the modem and everything works fine.
