Sounds like you need to try to reflash the bios again.
Try to reset it first and see if that helps. You know..clear it with the "clear cmos" jumper.

Like JP said, try to flash the BIOS again.
You should have an uninterruptable power supply when you flash a BIOS

If the BIOS is dead from a failed flash,NO.
If that is what happened you can change the bios chip, but I have never done it. http://www.biosworld.com/

i just recieved this from asus but i need help understanding it
Dear Customer :
Thank you for contacting ASUS Customer Service.
My name is Sean, and I would be assisting you today.
Please use crashfree BIOS function of A7V600 to reflash the BIOS to try.
You can Do like the followings to reflash the BIOS.
a. Find a good computer.
b.Use a pure floppy disk, use the dos command "Format a:/s " to create a
bootup disk, copy the aflash.exe and the bios file to this disk.
c. Shut down the good compute and raise the bios chip on the motherboard,
then just put the pins touched on the socket.
d. Power on the good computer and enter DOS, Change the raised bios chip
from your have problems computer.
e. Load the aflash.exe and flash the bios.
NOTE: Be careful do not make the pins of your bios broken. YOU can also contact
the local reseller to help you to do this things if you can
not do it.
can anyone help me understand this?

What he`s saying is find a compter with a identical motherboard to yours. On that computer :
1 Prepair a disk bootable floppy with the bois image and flash util
2 (With the computer off ) loosen the bios chip so it can be removed easily but is still connected.
3 Boot the machine with the disk you made
4 When the computer is booted into the dos prompt carefully remove the bios chip and replace it with your faulty chip
5 Flash Your bios chip
This can be done but it is risky and involves you taking somebody elses computer apart. I would only do this as a last resort ( may be better to order a new bios chip )
good luck.

Please use crashfree BIOS function of A7V600 to reflash the BIOS to try.
You can Do like the followings to reflash the BIOS.
a. Find a good computer.
b.Use a pure floppy disk, use the dos command "Format a:/s " to create a bootup disk, copy the aflash.exe and the bios file to this disk. In this case, you boot another machine to a command prompt..either with a boot disk or by holding the ctrl key (win9x only). Once at a C: prompt, you place a new or clean diskette in the A: drive and type format a: /s this creates a boot disk that does not have other garbage on it that will prevent a flash from happening.
c. Shut down the good compute and raise the bios chip on the motherboard, then just put the pins touched on the socket. Here you pry up on the BIOS chip on both motherboards to where they are just touching their contacts in the socket (pray that they are both in a socket).
d. Power on the good computer and enter DOS, Change the raised bios chip from your have problems computer. with the chips raised up in their sockets, place the boot diskette you just made in the A: drive of the working machine and boot to an A: prompt. They didn't tell you each step properly because after making the boot disk, you must also add the flasher utility and the BIOS file to it.
e. Load the aflash.exe and flash the bios. At this point, you execute the flasher utility by typing its name..you will then have a screen with the flasher utility presented. At this point, you gently remove the BIOS chip from the working motheboard..TAKE CAREFUL NOTICE OF THE WAY IT COMES OUT...IT MUST GO BACK THE SAME WAY. There is a mark on one end...be sure that mark goes back into the socked at the same place. Now, remove your bad chip and put it in the socket where you just removed the other good one...look closely for that mark...do not get it turned around wrong..once in the socket, go ahead with the flash...after the flash..wait 2 - 3 minutes to be very sure it is finished writing.
On many motherboards there will be a jumper that the user must remove before a flash can happen..other and newer motherboards have this in the bios..so, either way, you must look for a jumper or in the BIOS of this other working machine..get it set correctly before you attempt a flash.
Assuming you have been successful so far, shut the second computer down, and return the chips to the correct motheboards...being very certain the chips are going into the sockets correctly.
NOTE: Be careful do not make the pins of your bios broken. YOU can also contact the local reseller to help you to do this things if you can not do it. The motherboard you will use to reflash your chip should be of the same general age..maybe in the last 2 -3 years..older socket 7 boards and early socket A boards will possibly have a different chip and socket..meaning they will be wired differently
can anyone help me understand this? | |
