Just had a read thru the newest MaxPC mag and they highly recommend the 9600 pro for "goodness on a budget"...

From what I have been reading, you will get more for your money with ATI at the moment. So I'd say, the best ATI you can get for the money

I second the 9600 Pro. Directx 9 support, fast, and the catalyst drivers seem to be working well and are updated more frequently then they used to be.

The 9600 Pro will toast the 5700... go with ATI ........ card rocks for the price. Unless you go with the 5700 'ULTRA' which is about $60.00 more (in the $200.00 range). I would stay with the 9600 Pro. Best bang for your buck!!

The 5600 are a great cards but the ones that are the best are from asus. The other all seem to run like **** but my asus 5600 does at least as well as my 9700pro so needless to say better than a 9600. They are offered at good prices and I've never had a problem with asus vid cards (I own 4) unlike with my eVGA ti4200 and my 9700pro (TOO MANY PROBLEMS for such a card). You might try the asus 9600 that should be a good card for the buck. If I were you I wait for asus to release a 5700ultra card but if you need if now go with one of their 9600's. (All of my loyalties to asus come from experience; I am not a salesman though it may seem so even to me)

9600pro. Sapphire, Asus or Tyan. In order of my brand preference. LOL.
