Outdoors can anyone help ???

hi.. i recently purchased a cable modem and had my local cable company to install it and set it up. problem is. on the modem itself the pc light doesn't come on and i get a network cable is unplugged error. i've called the tech support numbers listed with my isp several times and they tell me to do the same things over and over again. yet nothing has fixed my problem.. i've even read on the internet to switch the cords around and unhook everything and rehook it.. still nothing seems to work. Any ideas? this has me scratching my head and im just ready to forget about it and stick with dial-up.

sounds like the ethernet cord you are using is bad or the ethernet card is no good or not installed properly. I would say to go to the store and buy a $3 cheapy ethernet cord and try that, most liekly thats your problem

What brand modem did you buy? Who is your cable internet provider?
You might try contacting the tech support from the modem mfg as this sounds like the modem is not working.

Well, something I discovered is that there is a difference in "patch" cords and "ethernet cables" mostly dealing with the way both ends of the cable are wired. Ethernet cables should be like your phone lines, the colored wires should be opposite each other...patch cables I believe have two wires crossed in the middle of the 8 wires. Make sure they gave you the right one.

my isp is my local telephone company (comporium) and the modem is a toshiba.. the guy who installed the modem even put his personal modem from his work truck to my comp and still got the same result. as far as the ethernet cord.. my son has cable through the same provider and even brought his cord over and still nothing. my computer is only 6 months old. could it be that the ethernet card is bad? however when i go to my device mananger it says that the device is working properly?! im really lost and have no clue as to what it could be and don't won't to spend money on a new ethernet card and that not be my problem either.

is it running from one end of the house to another from the outside? maybe wires got damaged by weather outside the house.

If its inside check for mice maybe chewing wires or a short between two wires.
