Anyone Remove LCD from LAPTOP ?

And made some use with the LCD screen ?

My old Lappy has a DSTN-type screen, about 11".

Want to find some constructive use for it .

Forget that. You'd have to make your own graphics card for it, with an electrically compatible connector AND a VGA BIOS written and configured to produce that particular panel's timing and data format.

That's everyday work for designers of notebook and embedded computers, but for the end user, it's just not feasible.

Run the entire notebook as a display server. XFree86 is your friend.

They do sell what you need. Its called a controler card. Its not even the graphics card-its after that-its RIGHT at the lcd, and usually a small L shaped board.. The controler runs the segments of the lcd (there are 2 halfs to every TFT-segmented either Left and Right or Top and Bottem) and tells it when to switch on or off the L.C.'s in order to bend the light. 3 LC's per pixel, red, green and blue. So its pretty complicated. The higher res-the more pixels and that takes x3 the # of L.C.'s yet too boot. They do however make the controlers that will run "most" models of lcd's but sub $1000 is rare for a universal control card. LOL. Too $ for us like Peter said. Im a lcd guru so trust me-I do this stuff all the time including laptop lcd replacments, its just not reasonable-but totally feasible.
