problems installing Apache 2.0.48

Hi
I have been trying to set up an apache server on my computer running win xp pro. It conects to the internet through a linksys dsl/cable router along with anouther computer. Both computers can acsses eachothers files because i created network drives for each computers drives.
I have tryed to install apache 2.0.48 on both my comps and it does not seen to work. I get an error that says that port 80 is in use and apache cannot bind to it. Also when i look in the services program in admin tools i cannot find Apache listed.
Does anybody know what is wrong?
If u need to contact me my AIM sn is wetdog500

if you have windows XP pro, which you say you do, then it may have Internet Information Services installed. Basically what that means is, microsoft's version of a webserver may already be running, which is why port 80 is in use.

Just change the port to 81 or something else and then forward port 81 in your router to your servers LAN IP. If you can access it from inside your LAN but your friends can't it sounds like you didn't forward it. Once you are done forwarding you can test it by putting in your WAN(Wide Area Network) IP:81, or xxx.xxx.xx.xx:81.

BTW you change the port in the httpd.conf, I haven't edited mine in a while but I think you need to change Listen 80 to Listen 81.

In win2k you go to control panel, then hmmm what was it? I think it was under administrative tools and then somthing like IIS somthing or somthing like that. Its been a while since ive done it.

I would let apache run on port 80 and disable whatever microsoft crap....errrr....service is running.
