Radeon 9800 Pro Locking up...

I recently purchase a computer from ABSpc. I got the Awesome 3500 with a Radeon 9800 pro graphics card and a Soundblaster 2 ZS soundcard. Everything was working great, until I started playing any graphic intensive games (Rainbow Six 3). The games would lock up, and the window would close stating there was a hardware error. I was running XP so I decided to get all the reccommended upgrades from Microsoft. I also upgraded the drivers for the graphics card and the sound card since they were outdated. The problem is still happening. If I go to the graphic settings, for the graphics card and increase the Antialiasing and Anisotropic Filtering, my monitor would become totally unreadable and I would have to reboot. Has anyone see this before with this combination? How would you advise on trying to debug this issue. It really stinks that I can't increase the graphics to the hightest quality or my pc locks up.
