Althon XP 2600+ only running at 1245 MHZ now

I had recently tried to overclock my CPU but had switched the wrong option (BUS SPEED), and the computer stopped running. I had to go and reset the BIOS and everything with the jumpers, but although the computer does run again, the Computer recognizes my CPU to be Althon XP 1245MHZ and not 2600+ like it should be. How can I change it back to the original speed? Thanks

Motherboard: MSI K7N2 Delta
CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2600+
Memory: Crucial 512MB DDR
GFX: ATi Radeon 7500

Did you check the obvious, ala multiplier settings? Did your RAM timings get screwed up for some reason? If they check out all kosher, and your DIP or jumper switches on your mobo are set right in regards to your FSB, you may have just fried your chip.

There should be an autodetect function in the BIOS in the CPU section that you can use. If not, you can always figure out the multipliers by hand and set them. 2600s are what, 1.86Ghz? So 133x whatever you need to get 1.86. 14 or something?

Yeah the 2500+ chips run at 1.83/333Mhz FSB, 1.86Ghz sounds right for that.

I'd bet the bios reset to the lowest fsb setting which on some boards ( like mine ) won't automatically change with the processor. You are sitting at the default setting and need to change the fsb to the chips design.

133fsb for 266mhz chips
166fsb for 333mhz chips
200fsb for the newest 400mhz chips.

You probably just need to change the fsb to 333 and the BIOS will detect the proper multiplier. Just make sure you know exactly what the fsb setting needs to be and the proper multiplier, otherwise you could easily fry the mobo ( I've done it ).

thank you very much guys. forgot to physically bring the motherboard outta safe mode with the jumpers. everything's cool, i'm happy. i swear talking to people on a forum is so much more helpful then in-person help from people sometimes lol Oh the 2600+ series is actually 2.08 GHZ
