video cable connected? please help

i just built a enw computer and have used it for about a month now with no problems its running windows xp with an asus a7v600 motherboard.

last night i downloaded a new bios from the asus website and i did a flash install of the bios with a program that came with the motherboard. in the middle of installing the new bios my computer froze. i restarted my computer and no it wont boot up, all my monitor says is VIDEO CABLE CONNECTED? the computer is running but i get that on the monitor. i also noticed that my optical mouse or keyboard do not light up when computer is turned on.

Ordinarily I would have said that your motherboard bios ROM was toast, but after a little bit of research, I discovered that might not be the case.

Asus has a utility/feature called Crash Free Bios2 which is apparently a Bios Auto Recovery Procedure. You can read about it here:

http://www.asus.com/support/english/...os2/index.aspx

According to their web site, your motherboard supports, or will work with, this feature.

Base that on what I read here:

http://usa.asus.com/products/mb/sock...0/overview.htm

Suggest you read the first linked page and follow the instructions there. You may be able to recover after all.... Good luck, and let us know what happens.

Normally when a BIOS flash does not complete, the BIOS ROM chip is empty, and the computer cannot start. It would be great if the motherboard and ROM-BIOS chip manufacturers could come up with a way to reflash a chip after a bad flash.. I have not seen that data from ASUS yet.

In the meantime, dlaruwe... look at your motherboard and find the BIOS chip..may have a sticker on top that says Award or Phoenix or AMI. See if that chip is in a socket or is soldered to the mainboard.

i just recieved this from asus but i need help understanding it

Dear Customer :
Thank you for contacting ASUS Customer Service.
My name is Sean, and I would be assisting you today.
Please use crashfree BIOS function of A7V600 to reflash the BIOS to try.
You can Do like the followings to reflash the BIOS.
a. Find a good computer.
b.Use a pure floppy disk, use the dos command "Format a:/s " to create a
bootup disk, copy the aflash.exe and the bios file to this disk.
c. Shut down the good compute and raise the bios chip on the motherboard,
then just put the pins touched on the socket.
d. Power on the good computer and enter DOS, Change the raised bios chip
from your have problems computer.
e. Load the aflash.exe and flash the bios.
NOTE: Be careful do not make the pins of your bios broken. YOU can also contact
the local reseller to help you to do this things if you can
not do it.

can anyone help me understand this?
