sound problems

i have noticed that the integrated sound on my dfi mobo (Ad-70? maybe or something like that?) decided that it doesnt want to play sounds on the right side....
in otherwords, my right speakers dont work.... same with headphones...

anyone know easy ways to fix this?
anyone know what the problem is?
would buying a sound card fix it?

OS - win xp pro

ps. i dont think that i installed anything prior to this happening

Have you checked your "balance" settings?

Could be they got inadvertently set to left only.

Either try reinstalling the drivers for the sound card or go buy a new one. They are relatively cheap depending on your sound needs. A basic card is going to set you back about $20, a decent one should cost $50-$150. The Santa Cruz and Phillips Seismic Edge cards are nice for the 50-75 dollar range. Beyond that you are talking Audigy or Game Theater XP cards. M-Audio is another good brand but usually high end.

Personally, I think built in sound cards are crap, unless they have their own seperate hardware to process sound instead of using the CPU like most do. You will most likely notice a performance increase by switching to a decent sound card.

Yes, all sound cards have the plugin's on the bracket for your speakers/headphones/etc. The first link is a decent card, the second is a list of all of the sound cards Newegg carries. You might want to post in the Dealers/Trading forum and see if anyone has one to sell also. Might get a better deal..or not.

im liking the price of that 14.99 one

is the 7.1 one overkill? will i notice much difference between that and the $15 one in the post above?

Food

By any chance, did you check your cd-rom audio wires? Might be loose.
