Kids AMD XP System

I want to build a system based around the AMD xP pocessor. What would you recommend such as memory, motherboard and processor. I don't do that much to any gaming at all, just general use and a little programing. Any suggestion would be a great help!!

AMD ATHLON XP 2500+ "Barton" 333 FSB PROCESSOR CPU-RETAIL
$90 shipped from newegg!

I do believe that the Asus Motherboard for AMD Athlon XP/Duron Processors, Model# A7N8X Deluxe Retail is the most popular board right now.

BTW, Welcome to TechIMO!!!

Mike

I'll let somebody else handle the memory issue...I haven't been keeping up to date on those.

Another good board is the NF7-S, it's what I have in my new system I just built which consists of:
Chieftec Server Case + 450w ps
2600+ Barton
NF7-S
1gb (2 512mb) kingston 3200 ddr
Radeon 9600pro
WD se 120gb
Liteon dvdrom
Liteon cdrw

Those would be my recommendations. from what i've seen online some other good ram brands are corsair and crucial.

Yeah i agree. the 2500+ is the best price:performance cpu out there right now, and the Asus A7N8X Deluxe is a sweet board. As far as memory, if your not going to be doing any overclocking, just standard Samsung or Kingston sticks will do. Get PC3200 with that cpu/motherboard combo.

Search for Buffalo RAM. i heard its slightly bettrr for overclocking than say Corsair or Kingston.

Get the 2500 quick their locking them out! then overclock it to 3200+ speeds with ease.

I fourth the 2500+, I'm using it right but have yet to overclock it. My case is coming soon which will enable me to overclock.

I've gone with Corsair with most of my builds and I've found them to be the most stable. That's my personal preference.

I have been looking at Crucial lately, though. I've heard good things about this brand and the price on their sticks are quite a bit cheaper than most other reliable brands.

the locked chips can still be overclocked, you just cant change the multiplier. just set the fsb to 200mhz on a 2500+ and you get a 3200+
