Systems Using Extra pci adapter

Hello, i am having problems adding an extra pci card ( TEKRAM trm 290/292), in an atempt to install 2 more hard drives.
i cannot make it work because it uses the same irq (the default ide irq 14/15) than the mobo ide adapter.
it has no jumper configuration.

in the bios it is not possible to do that, and i have found no actual drivers for this adapter (it came with nt/3.1/3.11/DOS drivers)

i wonder if anyone can help-me solve this problem.
is there any "irq rerouter " or something like that??

thanx guys!

The controller card I recently added "has" to be in the first pci slot. First slot is the one cloest to the AGP slot..

From what I gather, that PCI card is an IDE controller, and a fairly old one at that. It might not provide IRQ sharing capabilities.

If you can't assign an IRQ to it in the bios, you might be able to via the operating system. What OS are you using, and what are your complete system specifications? Knowing this can make assisting you easier/possible.

Not sure what kind of controller Steven is using or what his setup is like, but I was always under the impression that if you were going to use an AGP video card in your system, that the first PCI slot (the one next to the AGP) would have to be empty. This was because of a shared resource issue. Perhaps Steven isn't using his AGP slot and is using either a PCI card or an on-board video solution. Then again, perhaps this limitation has changed with newer motherboards and I was not aware of it.

I have two Asus P2BB boards (440BX/AT board) and have run promis controlers and USB 2 cards in PCI slot 1 with an AGP vidio card installed.
So some boards don't have that restriction.

ide

i do not know the complete specs of my system, it is a VIA chipset board. i think its something like "ACS ELITEGROUP"
it is a scoket 370 board
it has an agp slot, 3 pci and 1 isa.
i am using a pIII-1ghz.
512mb sdram (pc133)

that issue about leaving the 1st pci slot free is one thing i never had problems with. not with my board, or any other.

i have an ati radeon ve (7000) on the agp
a sb live on the 1st pci
an extreme videohigway tv card on the 2nd and
the last sltot is free, ( i took off the ide controller)

is there any utility to reroute the irqs under a via chipset?

I am guessing that you have one of these:

http://www.tekram.com/Hot_Products.a...=DC-200_Series

If so, dump it and get something newer. That thing isn't even DMA capable! Its a Mode 4 controller--that's pre-Win 95 days.

Either just try moving the pci cards to other slots...or maybe try a newer controller card. I think you can find em for less than $20 shipped.

well the mobo and the proc. only cost me abt $75,
i even tried to change the irqs directly in the inf file (guess that is stupid), bt th bios could not assign any irq.
windows xp wont start with the card inserted.
the card cost me nothing, i jut wanted it to backup purposes, so performance wasnt my aim.

what card do you advise me to buy? can you send-me any links?
i want something cheap, not worryed abt performance, i have 2 40gb 7200rpm hdd, 1 cdrw and 1 dvdrom, just want to add 1 more hdd for backups (not raid)
thankyou
