Run nVidia's Dawn on R9600Pro

I am having trouble running the Dawn demo from nVidia with my Sapphire Radeon 9600 Pro. I followed the instructions found at Rage3D, but I still get an error message saying

"This program requires an NVIDIA GeForceFX-class GPU or better to run. Unsupported features: NV_point_sprite"

Any ideas?

There was a rumor that NVIDIA patched the Dawn demo to disable its ability to run. I'm not sure how accurate that was, however.

This caused by a change in ATi's OpenGL ICD. You need to copy an older OpenGL DLL to the Dawn bin folder. There should be information (and an appropriate file) in the Rage3D fora.

You need to extract the OpenGL driver from ATI's Catalyst 3.6 drivers. Any higher revision will not work with the Rage3D technique.

Download Cat 3.6

Extract the files. If in EXE format, then open it with WinRAR or other utility capable of dealing with executables.

Find the file "atioglxx.dl_" and copy it to your desktop

Extract/expand the file you copied to your desktop (Start > run > type "cmd" > click ok)

At the prompt type "cd desktop" without quotes then hit enter.

Now type "expand atioglxx.dl_ atioglxx.dll" without the quotes and hit enter.

atioglxx.dll will appear on your desktop. It is around 4.42 MB in size.

Move the file to the nVidia Dawn binary directory (C:\Program Files\Nvidia Corporation\Nvidia Demos\Dawn\bin)

Run Dawn!

Hope this helps,
Robert Richmond
