HELP ME! No Video at all!

Ok, I have a friends Syntax mobo with an AMD 1.3Ghz CPU. Everything is brand new. I have tried both a PCI and AGP video card and still get a "Video Cable Connected" on the monitor. I have tried two monitors as well, a CRT and an LCD. Any ideas on why this is not working? Please respond ASAP.

Does it make any noises or anything when you try to boot?

Is it a new build?

Give us more details..is it a new problem?

Have you tried resetting (clearing) the bios?

Usually in these cases you strip the motherboard of everything except one ram stick, video card, cpu/heatsink. No ide cables, no modem, no pci cards etc.

You strip it and then try it.

Personally, I test the system outside the case with the board placed on something kinda soft..a soft cover book will do. Only the CPU & heatsink, one stick of RAM, Video card with monitor attached. Plug PSU into the board and turn it on with a small metal object such as a screw driver shorting the two pins where the case switch usually would be connected to.

When the motherboard was mounted in the case..how many stand offs were placed in the back plate? were they the hex brass kind?...were they all visible thru the board mounting holes? Sometimes, there will be a standoff that doesn't line up with a hold, and shorts the board out. Also...there are some of the less expensive cases that have stamped and tapped standoffs..these have a large surface area and can short the board after a screw is mounted..best to use some fiber washers on the back of the board or tape over the standoffs and punch a hole thru the tape where a screw will be.

That's what those red washers are for!
