I was in heaven
On saturday, at 2 AM I learned that there was to be a SCALE 2x (2nd SoCal Annual Linux Expo) at the LA convention center.....at an instant I left the partay (yes, I was at a partay) and a very short time later (8 AM) I was on my feet again without coffee riding along with my fellow geek friend to what was to be one of the best experiences ever.
Due to lack of sleep I don't remember all the details, but there were some wonderful seminars. Andrew Morton was there and gave an interesting talk about the 2.6 kernel under a title "There is No Buffercache" He talked in detail about the improvements they are making to the kernel in the area of buffering.
Next I went to a seminar by Jeremy White (Codeweavers CEO). That guy is awsome. He talked about wine, the roadblocks they have to conquer, etc.
Apart from the seminars there were many booths. There was a company called Genesi, which makes PPC mobos and special PPC processor sockets. WIth their products you can run a PPC in your ATX case along with the PC hardware (Runs on a standard VIA southbridge).
FSF was there too. Novell, which recently acquired Suse (someone correct me if I"m wrong in this), was there too. Pogo Linux guys were there, and many, many more.
THe whole thing lasted till 10PM with an 8 o'clock showing of the wonderful film "Revolution OS".
I, unfortunately, had to leave early, but I was able to stay for a seminar with Robin Rowe who made a presentation of how movie studios use linux for their special effects. Basically he said that almost 95% of movie studios now run linux to do their rendering.
Seeing how much recognition linux is getting gave me a wonderful feeling....a feeling that soon we will not be a minority.
THE END

Linux looks to be a cool operating platform in the next year or so, all they really need at the moment is something like DirectX to run games good.
It's good that even game developers are making games on Windows available to the Linux party (e.g. UT2k3).

Yup, you get the game developers in line with making games for the Linux platform and you'll probably start to see hordes of guys like me running to Linux to give it a try more willingly than before.

A funny detail I learned yesterday during the conference. Guess what Pixar (owned by Steve Jobbs) is using to render their movies.....Linux. Not OS X .... Linux.

Lucky dog! I'd love to have gone to that.
Novell is trying to acquire SuSE.

But, guess we'll have to wait and see .

Games work okay in Windows -I think if people want to play games they should use Windows.
Games = Windows
Serious computing = !Windows
Revolution OS -I have the video somewhere -thought it was amateurish
