Win 98 USB IRQ confilict

Win 98 keeps assigning the IRQ to my USB that is also used by the network card but doesnt recognize the conflict. How can I manually set the IRQ for the USB, I have a free one available but when I reboot it always reuses the IRQ that is used by the netork card.

I have tried disabling IRQ steering but then how do I assign the USB to a specific IRQ?

Welcome to TechIMO!!

All 4 of my computers share IRQ 11 with the network card and USB.

What problem are you having with the USB?

A second welcome to TechIMO topcatt89

As Bill asked, are you having any problems?, and conflicts in Device Manager?

Hey Bill...do you use Win98?... Win98 does not share resources very well... I still use the OS and have had simular problems with sharing, not exactly the same IRQ or device. That being said, sometimes sharing works ok in 98..sometimes it doesn't...just depends..if there is no glitches or conflicts, best to let it be.

Here is my current linup using Win98SE on an Iwill KK266 VIA motherboard. All apparently is happy, and I have no current problems that I am aware of.

One of my systems is a dual-boot 2K-98SE.

It shares IRQ 11 with the NIC and USB in 98.

I remember reading somewhere that if you remove the NIC and get the USB working and then re-installing the NIC it might solve the problem.

Or was it the other way around.

Maybe someone else will know.

Thanks for the welcomes guys. I will try pulling the card, enable IRQ steering and see if I can get the USB working correctly.
