My Burner Won't Burn!!

I installed a Nu-Tech DDW-061 DVD Burner/CDRW Burner Combo Drive. It reads cd's fine, but for some reason it doesn't burn anything. I tried burning a CD, and when I re-inserted the CD to check it the CD is empty. It says that the Used Space and Free Space is 0kb. I tried it several times and the same thing always happened. I upgraded the firmware, but this problem still occurs. I am wondering why I am unable to burn anything. I believe it is something with the burner because I hooked up my old burner and it works fine.

Welcome to TechIMO!!

Have you checked to see if the new burner is supported by your software? BTW, what software?

It might also be an issue with your mobo driver, BIOS or OS, but without the full story I can only suggest you update your ASPI32 Layer.

I have Windows XP so I doubt ASPI would be a problem since it is not necessary to install it. As for what software I used, I used Nero 6 Ultra Edition and Fireburner. Nero lets me burn the CD without any problems and goes through the process 100%. It is only until I re-insert the CD to check it that I realize something went wrong. As for fireburner, it doesn't even let me burn at all, the option "Test Burn/Burn" is greyed out, which I find interesting.

With Nero, make sure that you don't have "Simulation" checked on the "Burn" tab. That will result in a full test burn with nothing being written to the CD.

That is not the case, because if I try to burn something again with the same CD it says it is not blank anymore.

Ok I just installed new ASPI drivers and I tried burning a CD using Fireburner. It said it was writing it permanently to disc and it finished 100%. I re-inserted the CD and the CD is the same as it was before. The only difference from before is that it didn't ruin this CD as it did the others. It says it is writing to the CD, but in reality it is writing nothing.

Are you using the correct media that your combo drive requires? DVD burners mostly only support certain types of media format, unless you have a multi-format drive, Yours supports DVD+R\RW and CD-R\RW for burninig!

You still don't give any other system specs! Burning issues are fairly common with some nForce2 MoBo's! Is yours an nForce2 Mobo?

That is because the burner application is using a 'virtual' burner, not the true burner you have installed. Do you know for certain that the burner software supports your burner?...not all do.

I did read your post where Fireburner indicated it would use the following in a test:

Thread1: Executing (Cache enabled)
Recording device: NU DVDRW DDW-061
Firmware version: BX03
Recording method: Session-at-once
Recording Speed: Max
BURN Proof: Enabled

which doesn't make sense to me.

I do know that when you buy a burner that comes bundled with Nero, and you change to a different burner, you must get a regestered key from Ahead before the new burner will work.
