DSL Problems

The Computer: An "Old-School" Gateway Pentium II 400-500 MHz Computer (possibly a Celeron) with 64MB SDRAM
Network Card: A D-Link PCI Network Card
Internet Connection: SBC Yahoo DSL Service
Modem: Efficient Networks SpeedStream DSL Modem
Wiring: A Network Cable connected to a Network Card and the DSL Modem and a Telephone Wire connected to the DSL Modem going to a DSL Splitter and into a Fax Line
The Problem: Network Card is installed and the DSL Modem was turned on. Everything was hooked up correctly. Sadly, the computer can't connect to the Internet, as I see only 2 lights out of the four--Power and E-Net. I don't see the DSL or ACT lights on. No internet. No DSL Response. Why is this so?
Other Problems: The youngest child of the household might have been responsible for losing the Windows 98 CD-ROM. Also the DSL Setup CD-ROM might be missing as well. Furthermore, there could be some Hardware and WinSock-related issues as well.

Any help is appreciated

Is this a first time connect? If so, when was the service ordered?

Have you installed the filters properly?

This is on the modem right? If so, it means you are not getting a signal from the ISP or phone company. Your problem would then be with them.

what os are you running? check add/remove hardware (or equivalent section) and see if the modem is installed correctly.

I had the same problem. Is this an external DSL modem. If you don't get the DSL light it means you aren't getting the DSL signal. My ISP called and said all is set up and you are good to go. WRONG! I had no DSL light. I called their support desk and the dude said it must be your house wiring. WRONG! I took the modem and my laptop outside and hooked them into the box where the phone service comes into the house and still no light. A week later they sent someone by who knew what they were doing.

Windows 98 Second Edition. It's my cousin's Gateway Computer (but it's not the same one as with my other cousin's, it's a different cousin). Sorry if I didn't mention the OS earlier on.

I visited the same cousin's website. This is what I have concluded:
  • DSL Signal not being detected
  • Hardware are all connected properly
  • Wires are all connected properly
  • DSL Splitter and Phone Wires connected Properly
  • Modem connected properly
  • Using Fax Line instead of a Voice Phone Line
  • All Network Adapters are fine
  • EnterNet 300 DSL Emulator Software not recognizing the Network Adapters
  • On Adapter Drop-Down Box, no adapters were being listed
  • Windows 98 compatible with DSL

What did I do wrong? Is there a possibility that a device driver went corrupt or a DLL went corrupt?
