Damn....Agp Pro50 Slot
I just got a new IBM Workstation.
Here is the link: http://www-132.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/st...goryId=2436210
Mines 1024 mb ram, 2.8 xeon, 320 scsi 36 gig, etc. It came with a Wildcat 7710 card...but I took out this card and sold it because it was too expensive. I was going to get something like a 9600 Xt card, but it turns out i have an AGP PRO50 slot, so I dont think it will fit.
Ive looked at some workstation video cards...but they dont really look that good for gaming, nor are they affordable.
Are there any other alternatives besides getting a workstation video card? I want do play games, not do CAD/CAM stuff.

Normal AGP cards do fit. AGP Pro (50 or 110) slots just have extra power rails on one or both ends, normal AGP cards still fit. Just make sure you align them properly. Most mainboards sport a little blocking tab for the Pro extension(s) of the slot so you can't misalign.

They do? but on the ATI webpage for the 9600 xt it says :
System Requirements
Intel® Pentium® 4/III/II/Celeron™, AMD® K6/Duron™/Athlon®/Athlon XP® or compatible with AGP 4X (1.5V), 8X (0.8v) or Universal AGP 3.0 bus configuration (4X/8X). \
My processor is Xeon, and it has AGP pro, not agp universal.

• Available with Microsoft® Windows® XP

• ECC DDR SDRAM up to 8.0GB, dual channel
• ATA/100 or dual channel Ultra320 SCSI hard disk drives
• 3D graphics choices from NVIDIA and 3Dlabs, 8X AGP |
That line verifies that you can run the ATI card..particularily the line about 8X agp.

"Universal" AGP refers to the slot taking both 1x/2x and 4x/8x cards. And besides, it says "either 4x/8x _or_ universal" there, doesn't it?
The card is 8x AGP, backward compatible to 4x mainboards but no further. If that mainboard actually does no more than 1x/2x, then indeed a Radeon 9600 will neither fit nor work.

Well, a board that supports a 3.2 Ghz Xeon processor isn't going to have only 2x AGP.....
If it supports Nvidia's Geforce series, it can handle the ATI series.

Nah. Like they said just extra juice is all. every Asus Ive had since 2x was pro slot. My Asus A7n8X deluxe is a 8x pro slot but ati radeon 9800 see's it as a 8x slot. It just dont fill the whole agp slot is all. Thats no workstation mobo either. Nor was my Asus P4T-E. It'll be fine-happy gaming.
