| My biggest concern is that it came to my non-spam email address. I've had it for 2 years and never had spam delivered to it. (I have a Yahoo address for spam) Have I been hacked? I ran adaware and found nothing suspicious. I am in the process of doing the HousCall from TrendMicro right now. What do you all think?
By the way I use dial up with Opera 7.22 with no firewall or anti-virus, but I'm downloading Zone Alarm right now. Every great once in awhile I do forward an email from my Yahoo addy to my non-spam addy, do you think someone could have picked it up that way?
{edit}
Is the XP firewall useless? Am I wasting my time and being redundant with ZoneAlarm?

why i think it is bs:
1. It came from a hotmail address.
2. There is no website to verify what this is.
3. You would probably recieve something in the mail, an official statement.
4.Did you even enter this contest or whatever it is?
5.The second email came from netzero/juno (if it was a real thing, these people would most likley have their own their addresses. Hell, i have my own @XXXX.com ; so if i have one, i'm sure if they were legit they could get one)

There is no question that it's BS. My concern is how they got my non-spam addy and the other questions mentioned in my post. By the way, HouseCall found nothing.

did you use your nonspam to sign up for anything latley or is it only for personal email? It's possible that one of your contacts may have put you one a mailing list "Sign up 5 friends!" something like that
XP firewall is indeed useless.
best firewall (free or money costing) is imo
Sygate http://download.com.com/3000-2092-10...ml?tag=lst-0-1
best part is that is free. i have been using 5.1 just upgraded, good stuff.
i used to use zonealarm, but i found that i lliked this better, more option, felt more secure.

2 years with no spam would be evidence that I'm pretty careful about who gets that particular addy. To answer your question, no I didn't use it to sign up for anything. I even use my Yahoo addy for Newegg, whom I trust. I suppose it is remotely possible (very remote) that a contact may have divulged my addy, or maybe got a trojan that sent off their address book somewhere.
If someone were to hack me, would it be to exclusively obtain email addresses? Dont they have anything better to do with their time?
Again: Is the XP firewall useless? Or am I wasting my time and being redundant with ZoneAlarm?

I'd guess that this is where your e-mail addy came from.

consider yourself pretty lucky if you never received spam to that addy in 2 years. no matter how closely you guard it, word gets out.
one possibility where they might have gotten it from, is if you exchange emails with someone else and their machine gets infected and you were listed in their address book...
