AGP Aperture

I may have asked about this topic before, but I'm still not sure how AGP Aperture works.

I've heard that AGP aperture should be set to half of your system memory, but what if the video card is smaller than half of the total system memory? Can the aperture be bigger than the video card?

512MB RAM
64MB Video Card

What do I do in this case?

The setting refers to how much system ram can be used by the video card if needed, so it doesn't matter if it's set to more RAM than your vid card has. Just don't set it to more system RAM than you have.

128MB's video cards need to use system ram also?

Not usually. But in some games with very large textures it can happen from time to time.

DirectX has it's own system for using RAM for graphics which is more memory efficient (and just as slow). For DirectX applications, if your video RAM overflows, the video card will automatically use AGP aperture; and then, if the aperture fills, DirectX will use system memory.

"the video card will automatically use AGP aperture; and then, if the aperture fills, DirectX will use system memory."

You confused me. The agp arperture IS sytem mem assigned to the sole task of video textures when the video card mem is over come. Providing the system isnt useing it already. If that bank is used by system its not used by AGP as that would flush OS needed data to load AGP data and errors would arrise. Could you explain what you ment? As you lost me?

I found an awesome BIOS Optimization Guide at Adrian's Rojack Pot (No idea what that means)

Here's a link straight to what he/she has to say about AGP Aperture size.

EDIT - Fixed the links.

Are you sure you have no idea what it means Evil?!?!?!

I think the link you wanted to give was this one:

http://www.rojakpot.com/default.aspx...ar1=0&var2=150

EDIT:

Uhh.. the link send you to another place... anyway... you can find the information on aperture size there.
