IE windows won't close

Hi,

Lately I'm having a problem with internet explorer. When a link opens a new window, or a pop up appears (i.e. freedvds.com) I can not close the window by clicking the red "x". When I CTRL ALT DEL and go to task manager, my CPU usage is listed at 97-100%, and trying to end program the pop up results in a long delay, and a program not responding message. At times I have had to reset the computer.

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

AMD Athlon XP 1700+
1.47 GHZ
256 MB RAM
NVDIA GeForce4 MX 440 Video Card
Asus A7N266-VM Motherboard
Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 1

Sounds like it could be a trojan you have picked up somewhere. Try adware and/or PestPatrol...there are some others, but those two are all I can remember at the moment..could even be a virus...is your antivirus software up to date?..

Hi,

Yes, I have Norton Anti-Virus and it ran live update the other day. I will try the software you recommend, as well as run a full scan with Norton. I'll post my success/failure when I have finished.
