SuSE 9
Thanks to CMonster who was kind enough to ship me some SusE 9 CD's, I'm now have it up & running.
This is one very slick distro. Beats the hell out of Drake 9.2. The only gripes I have are APM not working and they have removed Pysol from the package list. Took a bit of work to tweak it to my tastes, and get all the fonts looking nice but overall, I'm very impressed.

Glad to hear that everything worked out -yeah, what's up with SuSE not including Pysol?
At least SuSE doesn't shove Supermount down your throat...

Pysol issue is sorted .......... d/loaded, compiled, installed. All is good. Now to figure out what's up with APM ........
I know what you mean about Supermount. God, I hate that "feature" in Drake. First thing I do after installing Drake is disable Supermount.
It's almost as bad as shoving BASH down your throat. Korn shell (pdksh) is my shell of choice.

OK, fixed APM. Turns out that it wont co-exist with ACPI under SuSE. Had to disable ACPI and then APM was happy.

Sounds like SuSE has improved. I haven't tried it since 8.1 and was decidedly unimpressed.

Arrrgh ..........
I had the fonts looking sweet, until I ran the YAST online update. Now they're looking crap. Especially in Mozilla. I have M$ fonnts installed, BitStream fonts installed, but nothing I do seems to make much difference. They still look jagged & ugly. Anti-Aliasing seams to have no affect.
Any ideas ? |

Did YaST upgrade the font server? If so, you might try rolling that back.

At least SuSE doesn't shove Supermount down your throat... | PySOL is included with the 9.0 pro version on the DVD. Not sure why it is not a standard program for it. Beats the hell out of Drake 9.2. | I have not tried Drake 9.2, I have used 9.1 and 9.0 as well as a few earlier distros, and yes, SuSE is a lot nicer than Mandrake IMO. I no longer use Drake and have pretty much not used Windows XP since I installed SuSE 9 pro! Quote: Originall posted by linux_guru Arrrgh ..........

Any ideas ? | Did this happen after you ran YOU(YaST Online Update)? I know my fonts were kind of ugly looking until I installed the MS fonts. In Mozilla you can go to the preferences and select the fonts you would like Mozilla to use. That may be an option for your web browser...you can do the same thing for the system as well by running the Control Center and selecting Appearance and Themes. I am really happy with my current fonts.
The fonts I am currently running area:

| Yes, after I ran YOU. I have the MS fonts installed. I know how to change font preferences in Mozilla (and system). Nothing I change them to, seem to make much difference. I may have to roll back the X font server update. Failing that, I will do a re-install & NOT update.
