Ripping PS2 Game Without Mod chip?

No, there is no way to play a backup-copy of a PS2 game without buying a special chip.

If he owns the original, and just wants to try it on pc, I see no harm there.

I know I play Gran Turismo 2 on my pc rather then my PSX anyday, just because it looks so much better.
