Change defaults for File Open/Save dialog box?

Is there a way you can change the default folder(MyDocuments) in the File Open/Save dialog box so it would open with the folder of choice every time?
Why I ask:
A person I do work for wants to open his inventory file from the desktop as a Works document and, when the file opens in Works' word proccessor,to be able to hit the Folder button on the toolbar and have the Open File/Save dialog box open with the parent folder in the Look In drop-down window each time.
As it stands now,the Open File/Save dialog always opens with My Documents.
I hope I have explained this clearly
TIA lynch

Try dialogbox, a freeware

http://ftp.se.kde.org/pub/simtelnet/...l/dboxa101.zip (370 KB)

Dialog Box Assistant is a small program that
helps you to deal with the standard Open and
Save As dialog boxes.

Dialog Box Assistant places 2 buttons
in the upper-right corner of the dialog box.
When you press the left button you see a
drop-down list that contains most recently
used files. Right button is for the
recent folders.

Dialog Box Assistant keeps a list of
recently used folders and files for
each application you work with.

Dialog Box Assistant is FREEWARE.
There is also Doc Commander, a shareware

Thanks for the suggestion but I'm sure he wont go for having to add a program.
The version of Works is whatever the latest version is.
When he was doing this on his old computer he accessed the files like this:
  • Clicked a shortcut on the desktop for a Works doc called PartsList
  • The doc would open in the Works word proccessor
  • When the Folder button on the Toolbar was clicked, the Open File/Save dialog would open with the parent directory called DATA
When he tried this on the new XP Home box it worked a couple times but usually just opened with it showing My Documents.
I'm sure there is a way to do this without adding an additional program. But,again, thanks for replying with your suggestion.

Try this:
Right click on the document's shortcut. In the "Start In" line, put the DATA folder location. ("C:\program files\blah blah blah\data" and see if that helps.
