Systems Is there any alternative to my crappiness???

Well, here i am, stuck way in the wastelands we call southern ontario, with no internet link but my !@*@$^ dial-up connection(dial-up sucks). Ive called my isp (sympatico) but apparantly the area where i live has only the old style analog phone lines, and i cant get high-speed. Dial up sucks. There are no plans to upgrade my phone lines any time soon, either apparantly. Which sucks. Is there any alternative to my craptacular 28k connection? Anything at all? Plz, plz plz plz help. Dial up sucks. Plz.

I think cable internet service is available in that area. It used to be @Home cable internet, but I'm not sure what it is. (Does Comcast reach into canada?)

The latency is pathetic (forget online gaming!), but you might try looking to satellite-based services if available. The bandwidth is decent, but the service is geared more towards downloading files and streaming multimedia.

For example, DirecTV offers DirecPC here in the US. I know DirectTV service extends into part of Canada, perhaps you are covered.

Starband is another option, but I am not sure about Canadian availability.

I talked a friends wife (a webmistress in the middle of a redwood forest managing a large commercial site) into Starband---cost her alot of money setting up the system and it works without alot of reliability---its been about a year since install and she primarily uses her dialup with a web accelerator now, maybe things have changed since---her biggest problems seemed to be support related, id ask her---but its sort of a touchy subject between us now...

Check it out fully before spending---
