Subject 'signs', Account: 'pop.charter.net', Server: 'smtp.mailaka.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '501 This system is not configured to relay mail from <dchurch@charter.net> to <Grkidsmmac@tds.net> for 66.190.60.', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 501, Error Number: 0x800CCC79"

Welcome to TechIMO!

Your outgoing server is likely not properly configured. The most common problem is the lack of authentification, especially given the error message you have received. It is due to your ISP provider restricting access to SMTP port 25.

Go to the Tools menu in outlook/outlook express, and click on "Accounts." In this window, click on your domain to highlight it, then click on "Properties."

Click on the "Servers" tab when the next screen pops up. Now, check the box that says, "My server requires authentication" for Outgoing Server. Click "Okay". Try sending mail.

Hope this helps,
Robert Richmond

Send a message via Yahoo to muno
Or, your dialup isp is different from your cable modem isp, and you're trying to send mail from the dialup ip to the cable modem smtp server.

smtp servers do NOT relay messages from other hosts than themselves.

As indicated, you may be able to use authentication to send via the cable modem ISP SMTP server. If not, there is another idea. If using something like Outlook Express you can configure a second email account for the dial-up. When sending a message while on dial up, just change the From to the account associated with the dial-up SMTP server.
