Boot Problem with computer?

Hi. I have a computer system:

P4 2.6Ghz 533FSB CPU
PC Chips Mobo
512Mb PC2100 RAM
80Gb Maxtor 7200 RPM HD
Windows XP installed
Direct X 9.0b
52x CD-RW Drive
Floppy Drive
56K Modem

I have a boot problem with this computer. I built it with new components. The computer was operating fine until my friend (the person who owns it now) installed some apps (Kazaa, PalTalk, ...) and now the computer boots very slow. Whenver Windows finally comes up, operating it is slow also. It sounds like there is an app on boot up causing it to struggle. Is there some way I can pinpoint this app an delete it? What is the best way to fix this situation. Thanks!

P.S. I had an anti-virus running since the beginning, so I know it is not a virus.

I will try that. I tried to unistall Kazaa, but the problem still exists. Could be a "spy file" or something left from kazaa. I'm not sure, but don't they have a program that can make a log file of everything that is processed on boot. Somthing like "hacker.." . Not sure of the name.

you can run "msconfig" and see what all is listed as starting at startup..probably a lot of junk in there.
