On/Off switch for Network Cable?

Is there such a thing as a physical on/off switch that I can use between my router and my pc?

All I need is a switch that has a network cable "in" port, and an "out" port.

I saw a device like this once, but can't remember where

unplugging it would work

or disabling the network adapter (right click the adapter and "Disable" in the Network Connections window)
In Win2k/XP at least...
(doesn't work in 9x/ME)
Never seen a switch though

I didn't know I could disable the network adapter.

Is this an absolute breaking of the PC's connection to the net?
If so, that would probably work.

But, I'm kinda amazed that I've not been able to find a physical switch.

I saw a auto-switch once, that worked with firewall software. If the firewall detected any incoming communication, it would activate this physical switch to break the connection to assure that nobody could gain access to the PC.

Only problem is I can't remember where I saw that

yes, you can check for yourself by looking at the link lights on the NIC and or switch. They will be off.

Zone Alarm allows you to lock your connection from the net.

Cheers!

Makes me want to ask...Why do you need this option? Perhaps there is software that would help perform the same function without mucking about with the system.
