W2k file association question

A file association question for you.

A customer has a group of files with file extension LTR all associated to Notepad. Typically, these files do not have a file association assigned to them. A customer mistakenly associated these file to Notepad. Needless to day, this caused problems she was unable to correct. In reviewing this issue, the LTR file extension is not listed as a registered file extension in Windows Explorer-Tools-Folder Options-File Types. Even after a system reboot, the LTR extension was not listed as a regitered file type. This is a W2k system.

The only corrective option found was to delete the following registry key:
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-744189310-579619934-926709054-20894\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ex plorer\FileExts\.ltr

Now the challenge, the customer is working remotely, has only limited user rights and is technology challenged. Also, any type of remote control application is also out due some other unrelated network issues. I have even tried creating then deleting the LTR file extension. No such luck. Any thoughts? Thank you

We can right click to reassociate it, however, this LTR extension cannot be associated to any one specific application. This is a requirement in our environment. I wish it were that easy.

How about you trying to do a Right Click and select Open with and make sure that the check box

" Always use the selected Program is unchecked" ?

It has worked in my case :-)
