Outdoors Radeon 9600 pro help!!

Hi. I jsut installed my radeon 9600 pro using the latest ati drivers (not the cd's). I got rid of all my old drivers. That said, then trying to play a game like counter strike or day of defeat, i get the same performance or even worse than i got with my gefore 2 mx. I feel as thought the card is lagging my game like crazy. And my comp is running much slower for some reason. I am running a p4 1.7, and my mobo has 4x agp compatibility. Anything I did wrong or didnt do? Thanks.

well you aren't going to get the full power of the 9600pro without 8x agp.

Anyone? Im thinking of jsut returning this card and popping back my geforce2... Sad that a geforce2 mx performs equally to a 9600 pro.

hmm, did you do a reformat after installing the 9600Pro hmmmm? If you didn't that would be the cause of your problems hmmmmmm? You can't switch from nVidia to ATI without a reformat hmmmm......Thats all I could think of being your problem hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....BTW, AGP 3.0 (aka 8x) only adds like .5% increase in performance so don't worry about that hmmmmmmmmmm.... Oh and if your only running a P4 1.7GHZ its time for an upgrade lad, I say an Athlon XP 2500+ or Pentuim 4 2.4C would make a nice upgrade from what you've got hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm............ Or if possible you can OC you current 1.7 to 2.0 and hopefully give yer system a little more life hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm,,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,,,

Well hope I helped,

AND YES YOU HAVE TO REFORMAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

a formated drive doesnt seem to help much though. My friend just got a 3000+ with 512 ram, and a radeon 9800. He formated his drives (actually bought i new one i believe) and on the aquamark3 test, his gfx score came out worse than my 9600 pro. With a brand new formated drive... And about the 2500+, im planning on getting that sometime soon...

what are the rest of your system specs? That Radeon 9600 Pro should blow away your old MX card. You obviously have something set incorrectly. What brand 9600 Pro do you have?

Right now im running a P4 1.7 with 256 ram. I went through everything with the vid card to check that it was setup right. Everything was setup right. And i did the Aquamark3 test, which my comp came out at about 5000, and my Gfx scored a 2800 around... It performed like crap during the test. Im gonna try using a formated drive and use the test on that, if that doesnt work, im just going to return the card.

Well, the 9600 Pro is a heck of a performer, I popped one on an NF7-S with a 2500+ set at 3200+ and got 4111 3DMarks, its really a nice card, I suggest that you get the 2500+ and MoBo first and check out the performance then, BTW I OC the 9600 to 500/700 and it rocks, its a Connect3D one BTW.

First of all, ARE U SURE YOU DON'T HAVE FSAA and ANISOTROPIC FILTERING ENABLED?????

Ok, now that I have that out of the way, let me clear some things!

I'm sorry to say that although 8x agp is faster than 4x agp, that doesn't mean that your game will lag that much more. (As someone already mentioned, 8x vs. 4x difference in performance is almost non-existent).

NOT TRUE. I had in my system a GeForce 2 mx 400 and I just uninstalled the Nvidia drivers and put on my new Radeon and it worked perfectly.!!!!! If you want to look for my benches:
