Problems with Compaq TFT5000 Flat panel

Hi,

I have a Compaq deskpro (PIII, 800MHz, 128MB) with a flat panel Compaq TFT5000 monitor. Both items were bought used off e-bay 6 months ago.

We were recently decorating the house, so the PC and monitor were disconnected and placed in a box to prevent them getting covered in drywall dust. One week later, I reconnected everything, to find that the monitor display remained black (i.e. like it was turned off) after booting up and the glowing 'on' button on the monitor was flashing rapidly (checked all the connections, everything OK)?

Three days later and without us doing anything to it, now the monitor will show a display, which is a blue background with what appears to be garbled junk characters (and the lit 'on' button is no longer flashing)?

Anybody have any experience with TFT displays? If they stop working are they junk, or can they be repaired?

Any info gratefully received!

Yes, some of the pins are apparently missing, but it was like that when we got it?

I guess it depends on what type of cable you have. Please reference MyCableShop.com for a picture of cables and their pins, etc.

Find your cable, and make sure all the pins are accounted for! Strange colors such are often attribted to monitor cables having loose or missing pins.

ALSO..
Be sure your graphics card (if applicable) is seated into the AGP/PCI slot. 'garbled text' is a symptom of an improperly seated graphics card. It may have been 'bumped' out while you were moving stuff around.

by the way.. Welcome to TechIMO!
