ZoneAlarm Pro forces AIM to reconnect every few hours?

Hello. I had a problem with Zone Alarm Pro causing AIM to lose its connection and reconnect every few hours. Drives other people crazy because they always hear me log on and log off, and it just gets annoying for me too.

When I tried a different firewall for a few months I was fine. When the trial ran out for that and I saw Zone Alarm was updated, I tried it again and I'm back to the same problem. ZA is otherwise my favorite firewall (b/c of ad blocking, lists of acceptable programs, etc.) and I'd like to keep it. Any idea why it's forcing AIM to reconnect? Thanks.

Does your overall internet connection stop? ZA Pro has a feature to stop internet all internet traffic after a set amount of inactivity I believe.

I think he means ; dial-up, DSL, etc.

.edu is like saying .com or .gov.
edu's would more then likly be T3. Maybe.

Also, you may have problems using ZA behind a Univesities network.

Try contacting you helpdesk with this, if you're on a uni. network.

Yes, it's a T3.

I figured that's implied by saying an edu connection. No, I obviously wasn't referring to the domain.

I was just wondering if maybe it was something like an IP lease expiring, and maybe you could allow a range of IPs in ZA. But just a WAG.

Check my edit.

Contact your helpdesk. They would know what that system has that may be conflicting with ZA.

You could also be having problems because of bandwidth. If a fellow student is d/l'ing massive files (games mp3's ) it will cut into your connection.

Jack H. : No ZA does not turn off your connection after a set time. You can stop or lock your connection by clicking the proper icon. Only if you have to!
