MSBlast, you stink, and so do you Western Dig!
Well, first thing I had an issue with was Western Digital's drive duplication software. It doesn't work right from Windows! I copied the entire drive, but then listed 4 files that did not copy but gave a speel on how they were not required by the operating system and would be re-created automatically by the OS (XP Home). HAH! That didn't work. I tried to repair XP from the install disk when the duped drive would not boot, and it started to repair. But when it rebooted it reverted to a fresh install, and made me go from there. Well, that turned out to be such a mess when done I just reformatted and did a fresh install because it kind of pulled the info from the old install (yes, with a fresh install over an existing install), but it didn't do it right. It had all the programs listed as installed, but would not remove them from the Add/Remove programs. THere were several other bugs, but anyway. So I did a fresh install and then proceeded to update Windows with some security patches once all the drivers were go. Well, in the midst of downloading/installing three ~250k patches (the MSblast patch and two other important fixes), the PC gets infected with MSBLast! DOH! Well, before reformatting, I manage to get that FixBlast program from Symantec, but guess what! It says I'm not infected. Even though MSBlast.exe is in my registry, and it's the latest version of the removal tool...It is blind. I also download the MSBlast patch manually and save it to another drive before reformatting.
Well, finally I reformat, reinstall, kick the firewall & AV on max (soft), install the patch, and everything went smooth after that...
Just thought I would share my story. Cut it short, cuz I have to go to my Chemistry lab right now.
CYA!
