Systems Unable to delete files from Temporary Internet folder

I have a large number of temporary internet files I would
like to delete, but can't. I was able to delete the
cookies, but when I try to delete the 12,000 temporary
internet file the pc locks up. If I try to delete a small
group or one at a time I get no error or lock up, but the
files are not tranported to the recycle bin. They just
stay in the temp folder.

I have Windows ME and AOL.

I believe there is an issue with that version of windows.... 98 also

Just delete a group at a time get rid of them... then refresh your directory...

Hmmmm...maybe WinME, but I have two machines, one with Win98, and the other with Win98SE..I regularly delete the temp i-net files without problems.

Mine fall under a second folder called Content.IE5...maybe AOL is the cause? try booting into Win in safe mode and see if you can delete them all at one time.

Do you use any Anti-virus programs or Anti-spyware or anything that might have a temporary internet file locked? That might cause IE to lockup when deleting files. You'd be okay until you hit the locked file.

12000 items to delete are too much for that system to handle all at once.
Delete in bunches and refresh screen often. Don't be surprised if it takes a while, or the machine looks like it's locked up. It will be pretty busy deleting that much "stuff".

PS - clean that folder often (it fills up fast and can contain tracking cookies) - don't set the temp folder size too small, will cause problems
