ATI RADeon 9600 pro problem ....help

I just got a new ATI 9600 pro for my Epox 8rda+ with xp1700 T'Bred B core ( not Oc'ed, yet ) , corsair 512M pc2700 mem , antec 450watts psu , winXp . I removed the drivers for the previous card gforce 4 and powered down . Installed new 9600 pro and would not boot up , powered down , reset cmos , powered back up , no boot . Reseated vid card , no boot , powers up but just sits there with the hdd light on and all fans turning ? Re-installed old vid card , no problems booted right up .

help , please .

this might be your problem with my motherbord if the video card isn't compatible the computer wont boot but with a compatible card it will. check with you mb manufacture.

might wanna try installing the ati drivers before putting in the card. i didn't have any problems with my new system and it's 9600pro and it worked fine even with the drivers not installed. of course it could be a mobo problem, i've got the NF7-S. maybe check to make sure agp is set to 8x?

I tried the 9600pro in two different Epox 8rda+'s ( one w/450watts antec and one w/ 450watts enermax ) and no go , will not boot . Maybe the Epox 8rda+ is not compatible with the 9600 pro ?

Someone suggested disabling the firewire in the bios menu and that would cure it , I don't know if it would work or not , I had already rma'ed the ati 9600pro and got a PNY FX5600 256M.
The FX5600 is great on the 8rda+ , no problems .

well i had some problems with my old comp, but yes i would check for the mobo manul for agp compatibility,im not too schooled on the 9600 pro,i got a 9700pro, but anyways on the pcb check for jumpers, i had an nvidia tnt2 and when i got my new mobo same problem it wouldnt boot i looked on the pcb and found some jumpers and swichted them and booted right up, and if that doesnt work try putting the card in with the previouse drivers still on and not delete the drivers and install the new drivers over the other ones, thats waht i did, but check for jumpers might be ur best bet.

It could be that when you switched from an nVidia card to an ATI card (and uninstalled the nVidia drivers) the chipset AGP and GART drivers also got uninstalled or corrupted somehow. Try re-installing the nForce UDP package after running Driver Cleaner to remove traces of the nVidia display driver and then re-install the ATI drivers.

Good Luck!

Thanks JohnE . I tried that , maybe the only thing I didn't try was disabling the firewire in the bios menu and as I posted , I rma'ed the vid card already. FX5600 is good enough for me , just wanted a newer middle of the road card .
