what do you need?

very good cooling.

Stock cooling could/might suffice, ive taken a few 2.4's over 3.0 with it---it wont boot if you are too heavyhanded within the bios, P4's and the mb's they are connected to allow for thermal throttling so dont worry about frying something---a better heatsink could help, it will lower temps and could be more quiet but probably wont allow much additional OC---good mem is key as well as understanding your bios settings...

The Vantec Aeroflow HSF Combo can be had for $25 on newegg, it uses the stock retention bracket so there is no worry if you board isnt equiped with mounting holes. WC informs me that his CPU is around 50C Idle.

Well I can'f flash my bios because the ASUS site is down or something when i try and download the updates, but right now everything in my computer is stock except my sound card and video card. And I'm also wanting to make my PC quieter so i can barely hear it, and i'm wanting to be around 40C idle. DarthGary said i could do this with the vantec aeroflow HSF combo, so i'll get that sometime soon within a few days, but if i added a couple more fans would that improve the cooling much? or would i need about 7 fans? And thekingofpain what did u mean when u said "it wont boot if you're to heavy handed within the bios"? I'll get back to you on my mobo tonight when im at home, cause im at school right now and its 9:05 a.m.

Which mb?---you still havnt mentioned that---
Doesnt it have the Easytune feature?
You dont have rambus mem do ya?
Website seems to be working--- http://www.asus.com/support/support.aspx
Heavyhanded? If you crank your fsb upto 250 (or something WAY out of spec)---it wont boot
Aeroflo will reduce temps/noise but not offer a substantial OC increase---(I have 3 of them)
You shouldnt need 7 fans---thats what is great about P4's---I run no additional fans intake OR exhaust on all 3 P4's in my workstation, powersupply exhaust fan only, each one has at least a 600mhz OC with no problems whatsoever...

It will help his OC cause at 50C idle, if he does any overclocking his CPU will scale up to the throttling level.

No, it wont---

----> Got interupted

Ive never had one get hot enough to throttle itself and only seen it happen by removing the heatsink---

Prometia or Vapo-Chill allow a minimal increase hardly worth the $$$ spent, most high end speed demon benchmark chasers usually use air on their P4's...

Swiftech offers unbeatable air cooling---
handpicked chips help :-)
expensive memory (OCZ) cant be beat---and above all---
Abit mb's rock the P4's world (IC7 series---> Max3)

P4 2.53GHz @ 3GHz w/ Vantec Aeroflow 32c CPU/ 26c System
MSI 845PE-MAX (MS-6580)

Love the Vantec Aeroflow! Totally wasted my stock HSF Temp. wise. Also using Artic Silver III.

Get some nice overclockable ram as stated above. OCZ (rocks) I have 1GB DDR333 that will run at 400MHz easy!

Keep your system cool: I'm using Tt XaserII case with 4 system fans.

GOOD power supply: 350w or higher.

My last P4 2.4 hit 3GHz as well. Actually it was the best performing chip I've had yet.
