RAM PC133 or PC2100

I'm right now running a P4 2.4 w/ 533MHz bus and a stick of 512 MB PC133. I want to add more ram cause by computer sometimes chokes up when i play games. Should i add another stick of 512MB of PC133 or removing the stick of 512 i have now and only putting in a stick of 512 mb pc2100 ddr?

what would you recommend?

All feedback is appreciated.

does the RAM get full, or is it the speed of it?
What games do you mean? It may be related to the graphics card, ie if you have a GF4 MX or something equally silly.
given those two options I'd add another stick of PC133 as you would need a new mobo to run DDR. I may be wrong, there might be P4 motherboards with both types of DIMM slot (like the K7S5A for athlon), but the chances are you'd need a new mobo to use DDR.

i believe the ram gets full. like when i play midnight club 2 or gta 3 is where it will choke. I have a gforce 4 ti 4200 128mb ddr. in my case i have a mobo that has 2 dimm slots for SDRAM and 2 dimms for ddr.

go ddr then, pc2100 will help speed your system up. i think that that gc might not be that bad, not like an Nvidia geforce4 mx like nukes stated.

not many mobo supports both ddr and sd ram, are u sure urs have the ddr slots? just wondering

P.S oops, u do have the ddr slots, then go for the ddr rams since they are really much faster than those sd rams

so having one stick of 512mb of pc2100 is better than having 2 sticks of 512mb of pc133 is what your recommending?

just making sure.

I'd rather have 1GB of PC133 than 512MB of DDR. But that's just me.

You won't be able to run both at once. You'll have to either choose DDR or SD.

I also don't see how your games are messing up w/ 512MB of RAM and a GF4Ti4200, sounds more like it might be overheating or something else. Try running w/ the side off and see if your games "choke" on you then.

Is this a PC you built or a store bought one? Do you know what motherboard you have?
Explain when you say "choke" Do the framerates come to a crawl, PC freezes. Also do you have the latest drivers loaded. What settings r u running at in these games.

i built this pc. i have an ECS P4VXASD2+. what i mean by choke is that the framerates get really slow, but the computer does not freeze. i do have the latest drivers for my VIA chipset and for my nvidia geforce 4 ti 4200, i think the version now is 52.16. i am running the games at 800 X 600 X 32.
