CD Burning problem, Nero

I have a family member with a computer problem that I diagnosed, however, I haven't found a solution.

He has NERO CD burning software, but it will only burn an image file. There is no option to select a cd drive to copy from . How would I add the Liteon cd burner to the Nero list of available sources.

We are trying to make a compilation from existing digital photos, and burning it to a cd.

It worked previously, but some way it got changed or corrupted, and now I am at a loss.

I re-installed the Nero software, but it did not pick up the cd drive.

What do I do next? This is a tough one because it is a long distance. I can only do this by phone.

Any ideas?

Win 2000
AOPEN 24x10x40 CDRW
1800 AMD 266
512 ddram
Nero 5.0

Thanks,

Tarp

Thanks,
but,

I can not change the software that this person is using.

I need to know how to add the CD drive to the list of input sources.

I'm assuming Windows sees the CDROM drive fine correct?

So, are you trying to make a copy of a cd you already have?

Yes, windows sees the cd drive. It works well in other applications. I am attempting to compile a new cd from picture files that exist on the hard drive. When I drag and drop the files into a new compilation, the only option is to create an image file. I am not sure what an image file is, but it is not visible as pictures on a cd.

Did the installed copy of Nero come with a different burner (i.e.; OEM version)? If so, it will only recognize the type of burner it was bundled with, and you'll have to get the full version (runs about $5 right now).

AAhh, Gettinbye,
I did not think of that. When I reinstalled Nero, I used MY disc, and did not think to dig up his disc from the build. I will give it a try. Are you saying there is a generic disc for all drives ?

Thanks all

Tarp

Yes. The retail version is designed to be used with any burner. The bundled version that comes with a burner has limitations (can only be used with burners of the brand/type it is bundled with.)

I had once had this same issue. Turned out the version of Nero I was running, I believe it to have been version 5.5.7.8., did not support my drive resulting in the same issue noted in this chat. I had to upgrade the version I had to the latest revision of the 5.5 ROM. I realize at this point, the most updated 5.5 version is no longer available directly from Nero. Might you consider obtaining the Version 5.5 updated version from a site like http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=nero

This fixed my problem without the need to purchase the version 6 upgrade. Hope that helps. You will still need your valid Nero key for use with the installation of the updated ROM.
