WD vs Maxtor vs Seagate vs OTHER

to be quite honest..... they say that WESTERN DIGITAL is the best for drives

i have a special edition 7200rpm and 8mb cache WD 80gb drive

i've seen maxtor label their drives "special edition" too with a 8mb cache buffer too.....

To make it even more confusing, Seagate has came out with their very own special edition 8mb cache buffer 7200rpm 80gb drive

head over to best buy and ALL three cost u $109.99

which do i buy? (this weekend) ???

**dont talk about rebates cuz i never got my $40 mail in rebate from WD a while back

... hey I've got one of those, Special Edition WD 80 w/8 MB Cache. Had it for a while now, works great and it only cost me $69. I hate rebates (wait I shouldn't define my life by what I hate)...sorry! Sony forgot to sent me a couple of rebates, but I had no problem with WD, got it in 6 wks. Maybe it's a lottery thing. Yeah! I finally won something.

.. this week-end? sounds like we wait for the Sunday paper, drag all the sale bookets out.. find the best price.

Previously, I used Maxtor drives exclusively. However I've lately come to love Seagate drives and will stick with them in the future.

'Nother vote for Seagate.
I've never had to RMA one and as yet, have never had one fail.

weird, i bought a compaq computer 2 years ago, and to this day its working fine.... the pc came with a WD 30gb 5500 rpm drive.. its still working fine, even after i reformatted it like 10,000 times .................. or atleast something like that.

i hope i dont get any problems with my wd 80gb ....

i hear votes for Seagate, Maxtor and WD.... I guess now-a-days.. the comptetition is so close that they are forced to manufacture high quality drives..

I believe it is the other way around. Everyone is trying to make their drives cheaper and cheaper, hence why they went from 3 year warantties to only a single year. We are going to be quite lucky if our drives last 3 years now. I would say WD is ANYTHING BUT high quality. How can you send someone a replacement drive that literally looks like someone tied it to the back of a car and drove down the street a few miles?!?!

yes, i agree with u, i can see the point.

WESTERN DIGITAL did not send me my mail in rebate! i wouldn't have bought the drive if i didnt know that they were not going to send me the rebate.

i could have just bought me the 120gb MAXTOR drive which was LESS money...

but.. i can't complain. my drive is working fine. plus. you can't base an entire company's prestige on ONE bad experience, ok TWO bad experiences.

what about the other guy with MULTIPLE MAXTOR failures?
and. the only reason i dislike seagate is because im not very familiar with them.
