Outdoors computer wont boot at all ?!?!?!

here is the story, first i have an asus MB a7n266-vm w/ an amd athlon 2100XP processor and running xp-pro. My original heatsink/fan on the cpu was making noise (guessing bad bearing). so i decided to replace it w/ the volcano 9. i take off the old heat sink, and i install the new, BUT i didnt use the thermal paste at first, i used this thin pad thing it had. well i put everything back together, and the computer will run for 3 sec. then shut off. during that 3sec. only fans NO harddrive lighty or anything. so i take it off and then i add the paste on and now the computer runs all the time BUT still NO harddrive activity. it just sits there now. HOWEVER, on occasion after i hit the restet button a few times or something i get this beeping. its a high tone followed by a low tone. and it repeats. BUT it does NOT do this all the time.

PLZZZ HELP ME..... and i hope this isnt going to cost much.

P.S. i did also update the bios the day before.

thanks

First off-Welcome to Techimo!
A few questions...after you updated your BIOS, did you manage to get the computer to boot? Can you get into BIOS during startup? Did you connect the HSF to the CPU_FAN power lead?
This information would be helpful in troubleshooting...

after i updated the bios, it ran fine, started up great, and in fact it seem to have run a bit faster and smoother.....

i cannot get into bios after messing w/ the heatsink, and i have tried both heatsinks, and both fans, all fans spin when the comp is on, but nothing else happened, no HD light or movement nothing. just the high/low beeps and thats not all the time.. sometimes it does NOTHING at all... Also do u think my MB is ok?

kinda sad

Any video?...at anytime?..if you have video, I don't understand not being able to access the BIOS. The hard drive doesn't even need to be connected to get to BIOS, just the keyboard, monitor, ram and cpu..(motherboard and psu too...of course.)

The IDE cables can get loosened easily..I would suggest reseating the cables in the mobo IDE sockets and the hard drive as well.

BTW, its not considered very decent to post the same problem in two different forums. The guys here are not going to go to each of your threads to see what others have replied, and you wind up with less help in the long run.

Hard disk connections fitted correctly at both ends?
Power to the HDD? CPU seated fully in ZIF socket?
Elad.

Try reseating the CPU. I have plenty of problems when I screwed with my CPU. Never had problems with HSF replacement. Actually does that Volcano 9 have a thermal probe that you put under the CPU?? I have a Volcano 11 and I had a probe that u put under the CPU or on top of the CPU between the HSF. Anyways what i'm getting at is I had the same problem when I put the probe under the HSF. Don't know if the bridges were connected or what but once I took the probe out it worked fine. Try that and also try reseating CPU if that doesn't work. Go with the probe thing first. Good luck
