bios upgrade

I have a Pc Chip mother board m599LMR with current bios release date of 6/3/1999. I am tring to install a 120 gig hd to this mother board. The problem is the mother board will not boot when the hd is installed. Will this mother board support a 120 gig hd? Is there a bios upgrade that will help? If so, which upgrade and where to find this upgrade. Thank you for your time.

Is this a backup drive or is this a brand new one out of the box.
Meaning is this the only one installed. Does the pc boot up allowing access to the bios.

It is a new hd. It will boot to checking hard drives right after memory check.

tlbader, i'm having the same problem and i think it's the motherboard...my board supports ATA/33/66/100 and the hard drive is a 120GIG ATA/133...the system sometimes boots and sometimes it hangs...and i beleive it's because of the compatability problem...i don't know how to fix it yet...i have contacted the board manufacture and waiting for a response...a bios update might fix the problem but there's no upgrade for my board so i'll seat around and wait. good luck

Media -Researched- alittle bit

It seems there is a bios update for this board dated:09/30/2000 S at:

www (scroll to the bottom of page)or:

ftp

tho I must admit I have never used a .rom file to update any of my bios(s)
usually a .bin file,so if you don't mind could you explain to me the proceedure or does the flasher just grab it and go with it as the flasher program does for a .bin file?

also I'm not sure of the limitations of this board in question concerning the maximum hard drive capacity size.
My thoughts are no more then 64GB or 84GB if updated, tho there is a site that creates hacked bios files to allow 128GB hard drives on certain motherboards.

The Unofficial AMD K6-2+ - K6-III+ page

Special Infos for the M599LMR :

This board is identical to the Matsonic MS-6383E.
www.pcchips.nl lists two upgrades for this board, which are: V1.4 and V1.41. Be careful.

hope this helps.

there shouldnt be any problem putting an ATA 133 drive into a ATA 100 machine. the numbers are meaningless anyway and really just a marketing gimic. I think the only time there was any problem was with the 33 to 66 crossover where you sometimes had to run an app that would switch the hdd down to 33 to get it to work with udma.

nb the whole capacity limit compatibility is a different issue.
