Microphone problem?

Running a shuttlle SN45G (XPC) with an Nvidia Nforce chipset.
The speakers work fine but cant record sound (speak) using microphone. I have played with the settings in the sound control panel and Nvidia's soundstorm to no avail.
Not sure if it could be a hardware problem or something wrong with the settings.

Any help appreciated.

Tx

Stuart

Okay, basic questions:

Have you got the mic plugged into the mic jack, or the line-in jack?

Have you enabled the mic in the recording section of the Windows mixer? Those are the two most often overlooked issues.

BTW, I am using Win2k.
Have used both the line-in and mic jack.
In terms of enabling, you mean to make sure it is not muted in sound control panel? and mic volume is up? or are there some different settings I am missing?

In properties, sound playback and sound recording are set to same device (Nvidia nForce Audio). Advanced controls for mic, have tried mic boost and also alternate mic.
