Talk Upgrading Laptop video cards?

I was just wondering about this.

Is it possible to upgrade a laptop video card from say like a Mobility Radeon 9000 to a mobility Radeon 9600. I believe they both work off the same AGP interface and also I think they might have the same form factor. I don't see qhy it wouldn't be possible to just exchange out the cards, but I don't really know. This is just a musing of mine. I think the hardest thing about putting a new card in would be to actually get an upgraded card from the manufacturer. Just a thought.

some of the newer laptops being made have the ability to upgrade the video card. (alienware i know does it now)

how old is your system and who makes it along with the model would help.

My laptop is an Acer Travelmate 800LCi. It has a 64mb radeon 9000 which is plenty fast, I was just thinking that when it gets old enough that it can't keep up with what I need it for, it might be an idea to just pop in a new card. I like the design of the laptop so I would hate just to buy a new one.
